Learn Adapt Build: A Journey to Visual Identity with Nick and Liz

At studioplay®, I had the opportunity to help Nick and Liz develop a visual identity for their company Learn Adapt Build (LAB), which focuses on scientific research, advice and tools for healthy work environments. They had been struggling to shape their brand properly for years and were looking for someone who really understood what they wanted to achieve. Curiosity led them to me.

Nick and Liz entered the process without much context and with great confidence. During our first Studioplay® sessions, it turned out that my approach offered space for them to reflect on their business together and answer questions they had previously had no clarity about. The sessions felt almost therapeutic. Although I spoke little at first, this gave them the space to find their own answers.

The process of creating mood boards revealed that Nick and Liz differed strongly about the visual style of their brand. While some preferred blue and the other red, I found a middle ground and created a whole with shades of purple. The various mood boards helped them make a choice and stay emotionally connected to their company, which was an important step in the process.

The most important thing they learned was that developing a brand is a process, not a sudden revelation. Step by step, their brand grew during the sessions, and the brand guide I created for them now gives them direction and pleasure in continuing to grow their business.

Nick and Liz were enthusiastic about the process, even though they are normally impatient with these kinds of processes. They recommended that others take time for the process, trust it, and enjoy the journey.
